Does the Church have the balls to take on the Filipino people?

If the Roman Catholic Church "excommunicates" President Noynoy Aquino on the basis of the position he takes in favour of artificial contraception, then they may as well excommunicate the entire Filipino nation.

President Aquino is the President of the Philippines and was elected by Filipinos. According to Nonoy himself, the Filipino people are his "boss". So on the principle of command responsibility, the Church should extend their grievances over artificial contraception to the Filipino people.

Do they have the balls to do that? Or are the men in robes too much of limpdicks that they'd rather simply issue medieval threats against the President?

Jose Montelibano takes a swing at the Forces of Enlightenment

In an Inquirer.net piece , columnist Jose Ma. Montelibano contributes to the defense of President Benigno "P.Noy" Aquino III's State of the Nation Address (SONA) which he delivered on the 26th of July to Congress. His approach -- and arguments -- were basically organised around two key pillars: (1) Taking stock of the arguments of the "members of the elite who were for other candidates" . This is basically much of the issues to do with P.Noy's lack of experience, lack of achievement, lack of intellectual depth, lack of ability to be his own man (independent of his family pedigree), and overall lack of substance. (2) Pointing out the continued popularity of the President . As expected, this has to do with the fact that P.Noy won an election determined by popular vote, came out with an 88 percent trust rating in a recent "survey", and generally is an all-around well-liked guy.

The Philippine Congress mirrors not only its constituents. It mirrors its constituents' favourite form of entertainment -- low-brow noon time variety shows like Wowowee . Not much comes out of Congressional "inquiries" and "hearings" other than an opportunity for our honourable politicians to rack up media exposure mileage. But while shows like Wowowee turn the desperation of its impoverished contestants into mass-audience entertainment, the entertainment value of Congress is more akin to a bullfight -- where a bloodthirsty audience cheers on a flamboyant matador's graceful ritual killing of a maddened beast.
