"Offensive" material kept off textbooks by Catholic Bishops

Decent sex education in Philippine public schools. Long overdue. But then how can this become a reality with the Philippine Taliban making sure that "offensive" material is being kept off public school textbooks...
Education officials insist that the bishops have nothing to worry about because the DepEd is open to deleting portions of the teaching modules that the Church finds offensive.

Excuse me, but since when does a state institution such as the Department of Education answer to the Roman Catholic Church? Perhaps we should now start considering the Pope and his Cardinals as the new overlords of the Filipino people.

Television personality Karen Davila was quoted by ANC 24/7 as having quoted Bongbong saying that "if Angelo Reyes was buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, my late father should also be buried there".

Every now and then I get news about the who's-who (and some who think they are a who who's a who) of various message forums and online groups "grumbling" about the success of GRP, its network of bloggers, and its community of critical no-nonsense thinkers who've gravitated around its cutting-edge insight, and the profile we've so far built on the Net. And then I check out the comment threads of Get Real Post and wonder... If there are so many of these yahoos who supposedly beg to differ to the ideas we put on the table to be subject to public scrutiny , the question to ask is: Where are the comments that aim to challenge these views?

Does quality of leadership necessarily determine a society's ability to prosper?

In the on-going debate around whether a shift in form of government will yield any significant change in our ability to prosper as a society over the foreseeable future (if there is such a thing), we have established that there is some validity in the assumption that quality of leadership has a strong causal relationship with system of governance. However, the second component that links prosperity to system of governance remains suspect; i.e. that Quality of elected leaders determines ability of a society to prosper .
