The company of wolves: the Anti Sex Education Mob

One need only look at what composes the company of wolves that are vehemently opposing delivery of sex education via the public school system to get a flavour of the sort of dim bulbs we are dealing with here. Counted amongst their ranks are...

(1) a bunch of men representing a Medieval legacy, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP);

(2) a terrorist organisation, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF); and,

(3) a group of "30 parents who oppose the sex education plan for allegedly promoting 'contraceptive imperialism' that assaults Christian sensibilities and values" among others.

Classy bunch, arent't they?

Bombing a place of worship is just so unoriginal, and that also goes for the statements of "outrage" flying back and forth. For me, the heart of the matter lies in the more fundamental conjecture: if there was no organised religion, people wouldn't be sitting ducks in any church to begin with, whether it is a church in Jolo , a mosque, a synagogue or whatever the hell else people go to to "worship" and, as such, become targets for the zealous violence delivered by believers of other competing religions in the names of their respective gods.

Kuligligs are really a simple issue

I just recently came across the term " kuliglig ". It refers to a motorised pedicab -- a pedicab fitted with some kind of small gasoline-powered motor normally used for motorising small boats. It's another one of those instances of "Pinoy ingenuity", I suppose. A modern-day jeepney-style "adaptation" to the chronic dire situation that is the Philippine condition. These vehicles are flat-out illegal . But like that other renowned Filipino lifestyle -- squatting (which is also illegal ) -- operating kuligligs had recently become the latest fodder for the quaint ululations of Filipino populism.

Real-world personal relationships severely limit a blogger's artistic license

The Philippine blogosphere tends to buzz a lot about stuff that has to do with blogging. That's quite natural. Car enthusiasts talk about cars, sports fans talk about sport, and bloggers talk about blogging. The thing with this of course is that non-bloggers (more so those outside even its outer circle of Twitterers and other "social media" aficionados) cannot relate. This collective navel-gazing that the Pinoy blogging community gets into every now and then seems, therefore, to yield no real social value beyond, hopefully, an inward reflection that might result in some self-policing and, even more hopefully, some positive outcomes.
